Safe Horizon is the largest victims’ services agency in the United States, with 57 locations serving more than 250,000 children, adults, and families affected by crime and abuse throughout New York City each year.
The Law and Order: SVU episode, entitled "Blood Brothers," follows Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) to a child advocacy center during the course of an investigation. The center in the episode is modeled after Safe Horizon's centers, where child abuse victims receive critical care and services during times of crisis.
From Safe Horizon:
Safe Horizon's Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) make a tremendous difference in the lives of child victims of abuse, by providing hope, help, healing, and justice thanks to the unique partnerships formed with law enforcement agents, district attorney's offices, child protective agency representatives, and medical care providers.
Safe Horizon's CACs work to prevent re-traumatization -- that is, further trauma of the child -- and to ensure that a coordinated investigation is begun immediately. At Safe Horizon's CACs, advocates, the police department, the district attorney’s office, medical providers, and the New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS) collaborate to provide a cooperative and coordinated approach to the investigation of child abuse cases.
The episode will air TONIGHT at 10:00 PM EST on NBC. Be sure to tune in!
