How to Know When You Need Software Implementation Help

Getting the word that your nonprofit organization is moving to new software is exciting. It’s shiny and new, with seemingly limitless possibilities! And software like Salsa Engage certainly is feature-packed and full of awesome potential to engage your supporters.

Once the initial celebratory dance has ended, there is a lot to do to prepare for and execute a migration into a new platform. Some organizations can run into problems trying to use the software out of the box. They may find they need help with changes to forms, pages and email templates that they’re not capable of doing themselves. In that case, they may want to work with a third-party expert to customize their new software.

But what are the signs that a nonprofit coms or fundraising team might need help from an expert? After all, they’re new to the software itself, and it might be hard to know where to start. To offer a little guidance, we’ve put together a list of four tips to help you evaluate whether you can go it alone, or whether you need a little outside help.

1. You just don’t have time. As you know, Salsa Engage is a very robust software program with a lot of different options and customizations. But if you are already over capacity with your daily responsibilities, how will you find the time to do the set up?

If it’s a matter of needing an extra pair of hands – look outside your organization!  Chances are good that a modest engagement with an expert will get you moved in much faster than dedicating your weekends will.

By the time an organization has switched to a new software, they may not have the weeks or even months it takes to learn and implement the system. It may put stresses on manpower hours or, worse, priorities get shifted away from the new software and the organization is never able to use it to its full potential.

2. You’re spending more time figuring it out than using it. Just as with any new piece of technology, there’s going to be a learning curve. And though Salsa Engage is very user-friendly, it still takes some time to learn.

If you find that you or your team members are spending a lot of time learning the program and customizing its features, you may want to get training from an expert. A third-party partner can hold virtual trainings to help get you and your staff up to speed faster than you could on your own.

Sometimes you just need someone to call when you have questions. Custom training and support can make it easy to hit the ground running with your new software, giving your organization a rapid return on investment!

3. You want serious bells and whistles when you go live. For organizations with the time and technical savvy to ramp up on their new software, there may be some special functionality that must be in place when you launch.

Even if your team includes web developers, sometimes customizing the software effectively requires a special knowledge set that an internal team just doesn’t have.

A third-party expert can collaborate with your internal team to get the job done. Plus, your partner can train your technical team to become card-carrying experts in your new software, making it easier for them to make changes or customizations in the future.

4. You want to innovate rapidly. One of the best things about new software is that it opens up a treasure trove of new ideas and opportunities. But when you have ideas for new function or customizations, the fastest (and most technically-practical) path may not be clear.

The right third-party partner can listen to your ideas, offer you some options to achieve them, and even implement them for you. Hiring an expert will save your team time and money in the long run, as well as unlocking the full potential of the software you’ve purchased.
