The Art of Petition Delivery

I recently watched Care2’s webinar on the art of petition delivery and got some great advice. First, let’s just do our due diligence and define the goal of a petition- it’s to influence the primary decision maker with the support of a group of individuals. To do this, it’s crucial to have a strategic plan, including deciding how it will be delivered. Think about the following steps as you map out a plan for your next petition:

  • Create a petition
  • Invite people who signed your petition to attend a hearing to speak about your cause
  • Hold a press conference to get media attention
  • Alert the media when you are hosting events and have your staff take pictures and be live tweeting/posting to Facebook
  • Partner with other organizations and have them share your petition, Facebook posts and tweets to get more visibility
  • Attend the hearing about your issue with as many activists as possible
