For the past 20 years, Walk for the Animals, has been one of Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s signature fundraising events. This event has raised life-saving funds that have provided critical medical care, food, shelter, training and adoption services for thousands of animals.
After a disappointing past couple of years using software like Everyday Hero, they were in search of a new fundraising tool. Something that wouldn't leave their staff or supporters frustrated, limit them on customization or result in a loss of revenue. Cue Salsa Engage!
The small (but mighty) staff at AWLA used Engage to create a beautiful event page that could be easily navigated by all supporters - and was even a hit with their old-school participants! On the day of the event, staff members were able to adjust ticket information to create a hassle-free sign up experience for last-minute participants. They were even able to see accurate, real-time results with each new donor and registrant that came throughout the day. "It was really nice to have registration, checkout, and donation collection all in one place and watch our thermometer go up!" said Anna Waigand, Special Events and Development Associate at AWLA.
As a way to up the ante, AWLA created some friendly competition amongst participants by awarding special prizes to the top individual fundraiser and top team. In the end, the hard work paid off. The Walk for Animals 2018 attracted more than 500 participants (along with lots of four-legged friends), gained 624 new supporters, and raised over $69,500 in online donations and registrations!
