Migrating from Salsa Classic

Why migrate?

To take advantage of Salsa's SmartEngagement Technology to optimize your multi-channel supporter outreach, fundraising and grassroots advocacy. Let's face it. There's a lot of noise and a lot of competition. Your message needs to be precisely relevant and delivered in the right way at the right time. Salsa Engage can help you do just that. 

What do I migrate to?

A Product Specialist will work closely with you to determine the best product(s) for you. Salsa CRM + Salsa Engage are for those clients who need a robust CRM/supporter database plus modern online engagement tools. Salsa Engage for Salesforce is for those clients who want their online engagement activities synced with their Salesforce database. Salsa Engage is for those clients using Salsa Classic today for online fundraising, email marketing and/or grassroots advocacy. 

Is Salsa Engage/CRM an updated version of Salsa Classic?

No. Salsa Engage/CRM was built entirely independently from Salsa Classic and is a more robust end to end fundraising and advocacy platform. The CRM is your database of record, with a purpose built integration to Engage for a seamless, best-in-class marketing and communications tool, created with SmartEngagement Technology in mind.

What happens to all of my data in Classic?

Salsa will migrate your data into Salsa Engage/CRM. While you will need to recreate some of your existing web forms/templates and reports, we will help to make this a seamless process to ensure a smooth transition while upgrading your tools.

Does the conversion cost anything?

Nope! As a courtesy and thank you for being a long term Classic client, Salsa will absorb the cost from migrating the data from Classic to Salsa Engage/CRM.

How long does the migration take?

Data migration can take a week to a few months depending on a few different factors - these include the availability of your team for calls, and where the original data is coming from (i.e. only Salsa Classic, or multiple other data sources?)

Will there be training on the new tools?

Yes, we provide a few different tools to help you get up to speed quickly, including unlimited access to online learning Your dedicated migration/onboarding staff person will walk you through Salsa’s Smart Start program, Salsa Scholars (our learning platform), our new Knowledge Base, and as always you will have access to our Support team by phone and email at no additional cost!

How long will I have access to Salsa Classic?

Once you decide to migrate, you will have access to Classic throughout the integration and for up to 90 days after migration. After that time, you’ll be comfortable with and fully up and running on CRM/Engage and will no longer need access to your Classic database.

Can I move my existing recurring donors?

Yes, If you have any recurring donations, we will work with your current processor and move the encrypted files known as “tokens” to allow the donation to be processed in CRM/Engage with no interruption to the frequency of the gift.

How do we integrate our web forms on our website?

In Salsa Engage, once you publish an activity form (for fundraising, advocacy, sign-ups, etc.) a unique widget code will automatically be generated and you can embed the forms directly onto your website. You will also have an option for a stand alone micropage for flexibility.

Will my groups and reports migrate?

Our Implementation team will assist the migration of groups and then recreate reports in Salsa Engage/CRM as part of the process.

What are some of the major differences between Classic and Salsa Engage/CRM?

Salsa CRM/Engage are designed with SmartEngagement Technology in mind. Some of the major differences that you’ll notice include: the ability to track the relationship management of both individual and organizational supporter records, simple, out-of-the-box reporting, moves management/cultivation, detailed donation tracking, mobile responsive, drag-and-drop webform creation, social media integrations, and multi-channel, multi-target actions. You can also take advantage of some built-in integrations with platforms like Zapier and Regulations.gov.

Will I lose any functionality?

There is no major piece of functionality in Classic that is not also available in Salsa Engage/CRM. However, if there is a function of Classic that is imperative to your daily workflow, we encourage you to have a dialogue with a Product Specialist so that we can be sure you’re comfortable with any changes. Most Salsa clients who have already migrated will tell you that you’ll notice added functionality in the new tools: like Dynamic Ask Arrays, Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, Tweet-A-Rep, Click-to-call, and Text to Initiate!
