For more than 20 years, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has fought to protect children and save lives from tobacco use in the US and around the world. Recently, they’ve taken the fight directly to government legislators and leading corporations!

In 2014, CVS Health Foundation partnered with CTFK to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle by ending all tobacco sales. With the bold action taken by CVS, CTFK called upon numerous healthcare retailers to follow in their footsteps. In 2016, Walgreens shareholders took initiative and began to search for a resolution for organizing tobacco-free stores.

In conjunction with activist shareholders, CTFK launched a targeted action in Salsa Engage telling Walgreens to end tobacco sales. Since publishing their form they have gained 1,737 new supporters and more than 5,000 targeted messages have been sent through email & social media to custom targets on Walgreens’ executive team asking them to end tobacco sales. But the support hasn't stopped there! As CTFK leverages Salsa for newsletters, action alerts, social posts and fundraising appeals, their supporters continue to donate and get involved with other campaigns that encourage a tobacco-free world.

While Walgreens hasn’t yet stopped selling tobacco in their stores, CTFK has notched other great victories. Their lobbying and advocacy efforts were critical to the CDC tobacco prevention and cessation programs getting a $5 million increase in the March 2018 omnibus appropriations bill. The bill also left out provisions that would have weakened FDA oversight of e-cigarettes and cigars.
